Anne of Green Gables Quotes

January 2, 2016

I have been obsessed with Anne of Green Gables ever since I started reading the series a few months ago. They are full of so much loveliness, cuteness, funny stories, and good quotes. While reading the first book, I wrote down all my favorite quotes/sections and then compiled them together here for you because...why not?!

(note: these are all words from Anne)

"I'm so glad it's a sunshiny morning. But I like rainy mornings real well, too. All sorts of mornings are interesting, don't you think? You don't know what's going to happen through the day, and there's so much scope for imagination."

"There is no use in loving things if you have to be torn from them, is there?"

"It's been my experience that you can nearly always enjoy things if you make up your mind firmly that you will."

The joy of sincere work and worthy aspiration and congenial friendship were to be hers; nothing could rob her of her birthright of fancy or her ideal world of dreams.

"The trouble is, you and Mrs. Lynde don't understand one another, " she explained. "That is always what is wrong when people don't like each other."

"Everything that's worth having is some trouble."

"In the mornings I always think the mornings are best; but when evening comes I think it's lovelier still."

"Its much easier to be good if your clothes are fashionable."

"She said we couldn't be too careful what habits we formed and what ideas we aquired in our teens, because by the time we were twenty our characters would be developed and the foundation laid for our whole future life. And she said if the foundation was shaky we could never build anything really worth while on it."

"It's nicer to think dear, pretty thoughts and keep them in one's heart, like treasures. I don't like to have them laughed at or wondered over."

She laughed a great deal, was cheerful and good-tempered, and enjoyed the pleasant things in life.

  1. I love Anne of Green Gables as well and received that same book for Christmas! It is an absolute dream.
